However, Shackle, for reasons not immediately clear, allows Copper to escape.
Copper is now a warrior of an unnamed Clan by the name of Copperblaze. He experiences a recurring nightmare of his mother's death, haunted by the gray tom named Shackle. In the waking world, Copperblaze finds himself unable to rest and seeks solace in the forest.
Shackle and Copperblaze's paths cross once again. Copperblaze confronts Shackle, seeking revenge for his past actions against Clan members. Shackle, however, begins to unveil the truth about Copperblaze's mother's involvement with a resistance movement opposing his Master. This revelation challenges Copperblaze's perception of his mother and her sacrifices.
Shackle, while acknowledging his wrongdoings, struggles with his past actions and seeks a form of understanding or redemption. Copperblaze grapples with the newfound knowledge about his mother's role in resisting a tyrant.
In a poignant and unexpected moment, Copperblaze chooses not to kill Shackle when given the chance, showcasing a glimmer of forgiveness and compassion. As Copperblaze leaves the area, Shackle witnesses what appears to be the ghostly presence of Copperblaze's mother, suggesting that her spirit may be guiding events to a mysterious end.
